Police in Montgomery County are searching for the person who shot and killed a man at a quiet shopping center early Sunday morning.
It happened at the Potomac Woods Plaza off of Seven Locks Road, along the border of Rockville and Potomac, Maryland.
People who live nearby told News4 they are in disbelief that someone was murdered there.
“When I heard it on the news this morning, I was shocked,” one person said.
They said the area is very quiet.
“Great community, never any issues,” Charles Slaughter said. “Very surprised with what happened today.”
Montgomery County police got the call about the shooting around 2 a.m. Sunday. When they got there, they found a man who had been shot. He died on the scene.
Slaughter is the general manager of Brooklyn’s Deli. He told News4 the shooting happened after a fight at the business next to his, Quincy’s Potomac Bar and Grill.
“There was a UFC fight, and apparently there was an argument that somehow sprawled out to the parking lot and ended up in the gunshots being fired and someone losing their life,” Slaughter said.
News4 went inside Quincy’s to try to learn more about what happened leading up to the shooting. An employee inside said management has no comment at this time.
Police have not identified the victim yet, but Slaughter says his mother visited the scene Sunday morning.
“You know, the mother and the brother of the victim came into the restaurant just a few minutes ago, and you know, she’s devastated,” Slaughter said.
He said he wants her to know the community is also heartbroken over the tragedy.
“To lose a kid, and I look in this mother’s eyes and the way she was crying,” Slaughter said. “It’s just, it’s hurtful.”
