A stretch of northbound George Washington Parkway will be closed during the week between the morning and afternoon commutes for the rest of August beginning Monday.
The northbound section between Sprout Run Parkway and Route 123 will be closed for four weeks for tree pruning. That’s the stretch of the GW Parkway motorists take heading toward the Capital Beltway.
The tree work is part of ongoing maintenance and is intended to prevent trees and limbs from falling onto the parkway and causing closures and crashes.
The closures will taken place Monday through Thursday between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. until Sept. 1.
No closures will be in place during the morning or evening rush hours.
