A husband and wife died after a domestic tragedy in Centreville, Virginia, Wednesday evening, authorities said. Children were in the home at the time.

Fairfax County police responded to a home in the 6300 block of Sharps Drive, off Route 28, at about 5:30 p.m. A family member had called 911, Officer Ingrid Palencia told reporters. Officers found the man and woman dead, with gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Police did not immediate release the names of those killed or say who they believe opened fire.

The children in the home were not physically harmed, police said. They were being cared for by relatives.

“Something devastating has occurred in this neighborhood, and we do have our victim services advocates working with the family to provide the resources that they may need,” Palencia said.

Police said there’s no threat to the public and that residents should expect a police presence. An investigation is ongoing.
