Newly obtained video shows suspects unleashing numerous gunshots toward an 18-year-old woman before speeding off from the scene in Southeast D.C. early Sunday morning.
Daremiah Banks, of Northwest, was killed, the Metropolitan Police Department said Monday.
Video obtained by News4 shows several suspects get out of a car parked on 11th Street about 5:30 a.m. before firing toward Banks and what appears to be three other people.
Banks can be seen falling to the ground. The others run east on K Street.
A bullet grazed one other person, according to a police report.
Banks was shot in the 1100 block of K Street SE, a residential area a few blocks from the Potomac Avenue Metro station.
Police said they were looking for three people in a silver sedan.
Karl Togeo lives nearby and heard the gunfire. He discovered his car was badly damaged in the shooting.
“Two in the back window, one in the back left bumper and two in the front,” Togeo said.
One round badly damaged the roof of his car. News4 counted at least 11 bullet holes in the car.
The D.C. police report says one of the firearms used in the shooting was a rifle.
A law enforcement source familiar with the investigation told News4 that detectives are working to identify the make and model of the car the gunmen used to take off from the scene. So far, their motive is unclear, the source said.
There have been 67 homicides so far this year, which is down 31% from this time last year, according to Metropolitan Police Department crime statistics.
Overall, violent crime is up 3%, the department said.
