Surprise show! Singer-songwriter who got their start making folk and country-leaning music a decade-and-a-half ago evolved their sound over the years into pop rock, adding cinematic flourishes and more complicated arrangements while remaining relatively hushed. “The Art of Forgetting” (2023) was a terrific, reflective breakup album. Night one sold out. Details.
American Football, 7 p.m. Sunday, 9:30 Club, $52.70
After perfecting Midwest emo with Cap’n Jazz in the mid-90s, Mike Kinsella’s next band added indie rock influences and math rock for a sound similar to Chicago post-rock of the day. Though originally short-lived, the band has been active again for more than a decade and just released its fourth LP. Night one sold out, also. Details.
