There’s nothing like a fresh cut to get you ready for the first day of school.
EJ, who is going into the first grade, just got one.
“Do you like the way your hair looks?” News4 asked.
“Yes,” he said.
N’Style barber shop in Capitol Heights, Maryland, gave away 30 free haircuts to kids in the community.
“It’s very important to me to give back and help the kids in the community,” said owner Nate Crittenden.
Councilwoman Danielle Hunter, who represents District 6 in Prince George’s County, partnered with the Gamma Pi chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated for the event.
“When you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you get excited about going to school,” she said.
“Just to show them that, you know, you have men out here doing positive things that want to support the community,” said John Morgan, the Omega Psi Phi Gamma Pi Chapter vice president.
In addition to the haircuts, organizers passed out backpacks stocked with free school supplies to get students ready for the first day.
Parents at the event told News4 this type of help from the community, especially during back-to-school season, really helps out.
“We just spend a lot of money on uniforms and clothes, and haircuts is one of the things you got to budget for, so being that it’s free, this means the world to a parent like me,” Quentin Long said.
The first day of school in Prince George’s County is Tuesday.
