A woman was critically hurt in a house fire in Kensington, Maryland Saturday morning.
Fire officials told News4 the home on Woodbridge Avenue doubled as an assisted living facility.
That fire started at about 8:30 a.m. in a basement apartment.
Fire investigators said there were four adults in the home at the time, but they found a woman who was unconscious inside the home. They said she suffered from critical smoke inhalation and some burns.
Investigators said there are critical steps people take in the event of a fire.
“We never want to see anyone experience a house fire or anyone to get hurt,” said Chief Zamir Hussain with the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department. “So as always, we encourage everyone to make sure you have working smoke detectors, to check them, make sure that they have 10-year sealed batteries, and to just have a plan with anyone in your household should you ever encounter an emergency.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
