Months after a 61-year-old woman was left dead in a D.C. crosswalk by a hit-and-run driver, police announced an arrest in the case.
Shaneia Gregnesia Lincoln, a 34-year-old woman from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was charged with involuntary manslaughter on Monday for a crash that took place in April.
Just after 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, police responded to a report of a hit-and-run between a vehicle and a pedestrian, D.C. Police said.
When officers arrived at the intersection of 23rd and L streets NW, they found a woman in the road with critical injuries. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died, police said.
That woman has been identified as Dawn Ciccone, a 61-year-old Northwest D.C. resident.
Detectives believe that Lincoln was driving a 2026 Jeep Wrangler south in the middle lane of 23rd St. NW on the day of the crash. The Jeep then passed other vehicles in the left turn lane onto L street, turning left from the middle lane — which is not a turning lane.
When the Jeep made that turn from the middle lane, police said, Lincoln struck Ciccone as she was crossing L street in the crosswalk.
Lincoln did not stop after the crash, and left the scene, police said.
Lincoln was arrested by D.C. police and charged on July 26.
