A suspicious package found at a firehouse in Northwest Washington, D.C., spurred a large response early Wednesday that shut down busy Wisconsin Ave. NW during the morning rush.
Investigators cleared the suspicious package, and a thermos was deemed safe, D.C. officials said. Wisconsin Avenue NW is set to reopen soon.
Wisconsin Avenue NW was blocked between Tenley Circle and Van Ness Street. Some side streets were also blocked, including parts of Van Ness, Yuma and 40th streets.
Numerous police cars and firetrucks were on the scene. Roads and sidewalks were blocked off with yellow police tape.
The D.C. Fire and EMS station in Tenleytown is located on the 4300 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW.
