If you’re driving in downtown D.C. on Friday, be aware of road closures and parking restrictions until midnight because of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Association dinner will be held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, in the Old Post Office building that previously was the Trump International Hotel.
The dinner will be held nearly three months after the original event was cut short by a gunman who prosecutors say was trying to assassinate President Donald Trump. The Secret Service rushed Trump out of a ballroom, and an officer who was shot was saved by his bulletproof vest.
D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department warned of the following road restrictions around the Waldorf Astoria until 11:59 p.m. Friday. Drivers are warned to expect delays and “may want to consider alternative routes,” they said.
Closed to vehicle traffic:
- 10th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue NW
- Pennsylvania Avenue from 9th Street to 13th Street NW
- Pennsylvania Avenue from 13th Street to 14th Street NW (local traffic requiring access to the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue will be permitted through)
- 10th Street from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue NW
- 11th Street from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue NW (local traffic requiring access to 11th Street will be permitted through)
- 12th Street Tunnel/Expressway
- 13th Street from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue NW (local traffic requiring access to 13th Street will be permitted through)
Closed to through traffic:
12th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
Emergency no parking:
- Pennsylvania Avenue from 9th Street to 13th Street, NW
- 10th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
- 12th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
Hotel guests and people attending the dinner will be able to access 12th Street only by traveling north from Constitution Avenue NW.
Road restrictions are subject to change.
The dinner is set to begin at 8 p.m. A live stream of the event and red carpet will begin at 6 p.m.
