Washington Mystics players Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen were selected for the 2026 USA Women’s National Team, USA Basketball announced on Monday. They will compete at this year’s FIBA Women’s World Cup.
The duo replaces World Cup gold medalists Kelsey Plum and A’ja Wilson, who aren’t able to compete for health reasons, according to USA Basketball officials.
“Just super, super grateful to be a part of this experience. It’s always an honor, representing your country. So, whenever you get the chance, it’s just amazing,” Citron said in a video.
Citron joined the Mystics in 2025 and will make her senior debut for the national team at the World Cup, which begins Friday in Berlin.
“To compete on the world stage alongside some of the best players in the game is an incredible opportunity, and I’m grateful to represent my family, teammates, coaches, supporters and everyone who has been part of my journey,” Iriafen said in a statement.
The Mystics drafted Iriafen in 2025, and she made her USA Basketball debut at the World Cup Qualifying Tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
