A 4-year-old boy missing in Montgomery County, Maryland, was found safe and unharmed Thursday, police said.
The boy, who is nonverbal and autistic, went missing in the 1400 block of Peaceful Lane in Silver Spring about 4 p.m., police said.
“When engaging with an autistic person, it is important to approach them calmly and slowly,” police said after the boy went missing. “Avoid making sudden movements or loud noises that might startle them. Speak in a gentle, reassuring tone, even if the person does not respond verbally. Most importantly, ensure their safety and wait for police to arrive.”
