A person was shot Sunday evening near the Santa Monica pier after an attempted robbery, police said.
A group of people approached the victim around 7:50 p.m. and tried to rob them. The attempted robbery turned into an altercation, and someone pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the leg, the Santa Monica Police Department said in a statement a few hours later.
The group of people who had attempted the robbery ran away.
Officers treated the victim until they could be taken to a hospital with injuries that police said weren’t life-threatening. Police said they are trying to identify and locate the people involved in the robbery-turned-shooting.
Santa Monica in 2025 saw an overall decline of more than 12% in violent crime and burglaries, compared to 2024, according to the department’s annual report, released in March. Robberies fell 24% year over year.
