Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Bethesda, Maryland, according to Maryland State Police.
State troopers said they responded at around 6:46 p.m. to the area of southbound I-270 just south of Democracy Boulevard after receiving a report of a two-vehicle crash.
Police said preliminarily a Ford Mustang was driving in the wrong direction on I-270 and hit a Toyota sedan head-on.
The two people who died were in the Toyota, police said.
The driver of the Ford was taken from the scene to a local hospital in an ambulance, police said. There has been no update on their condition.
It was not immediately clear if there were any other passengers in the two cars.
The crash is still under investigation.
The following closures were in place as of 9:30 p.m., according to the Maryland Department of Transportation:
- Southbound shoulders
- Southbound traffic lanes
- Southbound left merge lanes
All northbound lanes are open.
