
What started as a birthday party ended in tragedy in Fauquier County, Virginia.
Someone shot and killed a 16-year-old at a quinceañera in Catlett on Saturday night, the county sheriff’s office said.
Samuel Ojeda, of Triangle, was killed, authorities said.
The celebration was taking place at an event venue on Bowery Lane. Deputies are still searching for the shooter.
The event venue was still a crime scene on Tuesday, as the investigation continues.
Telemundo 44 spoke with a young man who was at the quinceañera and was related to the victim. He didn’t want to go on camera but said his entire family is devastated.
The sheriff’s office said that on Saturday at about 9:30 p.m., they got reports of noise and gunfire. When deputies arrived, they realized the shots were coming from somewhere else.
As they were leaving, the sheriff’s office said there was an altercation involving several people, and Ojeda was killed.
The sheriff’s office said they believe they are getting closer to identifying and arresting a suspect. They wouldn’t provide details and said more information will be released as the investigation continues.
As for the motive of someone who would kill a 16-year-old at a birthday party, that’s still unclear.
