A 16-year-old girl was killed and a 21-year-old man was injured in a shooting during a First Friday event in Old Town Manassas on Friday night, according to the Manassas Police Department.
About 10,000 people attended the First Friday celebration, a large block party held during the summer months in Old Town, News4 was told. The 21-year-old man was taken to a Fairfax County hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the shooter has not been taken into custody and the investigation remains active.
Authorities initially asked people to avoid the Old Town Manassas area and follow directions from police and emergency personnel while investigators worked the scene. A reunification site was established at the Farmers Market lot at 9024 Prince William Street for people looking for family members who may have been in Old Town.
Police later clarified that the shooting was not officer-involved.
Detectives are asking anyone who may have information about the shooting to come forward. Investigators are specifically seeking: photos or videos taken around the time of the shooting, doorbell-camera footage, or other recordings or information that could help the investigation
Police are asking people not to post potentially relevant photos or videos publicly before submitting them to investigators.
